*UPDATE [1/31/2022]* The Clearing of Deploys in February 2020

Roblox has a Deploy server, that is hosted on an amazon s3 bucket, this server is used to deploy Clients, Studio, RccService, and WindowsPlayers. This Deploy server is more commonly known to ClientSearch as "DeployHistory", in reference to the filename of the log which lists the history of deploys.

The DeployHistory log as we know it now, goes back to November 10th 2009. However, there is nothing saying that DeployHistory did not exist before that date, and was simply just wiped. Roblox has been known to have done that at least one time on the test domains.

Around late February, Roblox wiped all files that began with "version-", probably with an automated tool of some sort. Clients on the deploy server since that wipe are still available, but the ones before it are gone.

There are some theories as to why this wipe occurred, however nothing is concrete proof that they're the reason why.

  1. Roblox was running out of storage space, and cleared their deploy server to make more room.
  2. Roblox noticed that people were downloading outdated deploys, and cleared their server as a result.
  3. David Baszucki was once made aware of the fact that people knew the deploy server existed, so he ordered it would be cleared.

If you have another theory as to why you think this wipe occurred, or if you have any questions, please email me at lannuked@robloxopolis.com

As of 1/31/2022, information has been uncovered about what happened to DeployHistory, I previously mentioned it was "wiped". But it turns out, it was not wiped, but rather Roblox staff denied access to old binaries. I still think it was automated, as it seems to have only affected files that started with "version-". It is still unknown as to why they decided to do this.

"Granted all API Dump access. We will let you know if we decide to grant all binaries access."
