The difference between Server-Sided movement and Client-Sided movement.

Hi, I’m Bitl, the new contributor to the clientsearch Tumblr. If you played old Roblox clients before (which I assume you do), you may notice a small difference in the movement between earlier clients and later clients. I’m gonna explain the whole thing.

Ever since player movement was added to Roblox, the movement was coded in server-side. This means that all the movement is handed on the server, which isn’t all that smooth. If you have a bad connection to a server or if there is a large amount of bricks, your animation speed may slow down or lag. This, as a result, slows your player down as the walk speed matches the animation speed.

Client-Sided movement is a different story. Since mid-2009, Client-Sided movement has been around. Not only this, but it is also found in more modern clients all the way to NOW. 2017. What Client-Sided movement does, is that the animation is played on both the client and the server, making the animation look snoother to the player. It is also the reason why sometimes you can walk around a map while a server is dying and everyone looks like they are frozen in time.

That’s an explanation of the differences between the 2 movement styles. This should help you identify early and late clients easily, as this is one of the main differences between the many clients that are out there.
